Bruce Mactavish (Newfoundland: van de uitvoerige kumliens-lezing op DBA-dag) schreef: "I don't think it is possible to be sure what subspecies this gull is. We get some presumed Kumlien's with this little dark in the tips of the outer primaries. And by mid to late winter these marks are usually completely lost leaving clean outer primaries without any marks or dark shading. The bill pattern is within the range of Kumlien's. The overall slight build of the bird, the very light marks in the primary tips, the two-tone bill and range are strong indications this is glaucoides. Sorry I cannot be more decisive."
