Baltimore Oriole in Alkmaar in December 2009-April 2010

From at least 2 December 2009 to 14 April 2010, a first-winter male Baltimore Oriole Icterus galbula stayed in Oudorp, Alkmaar, Noord-Holland, the Netherlands. On 2 January, it was photographed in a backyard and this photograph was spread on 4 January 2010, after which the bird was relocated by searching birders on 5 January and remained present to 14 April, frequenting bird feeders in the neighbourhood where it had been discovered. Later, local residents made it clear that the bird had been present since at least 2 December 2009. In April, the bird was frequently singing and had acquired parts of its first-summer plumage.

This observation constituted the second record for the Netherlands, the previous one being a first-winter female trapped and retrapped on Vlieland, Friesland, on 14-20 October 1987.
