Breeding Parrot Crossbill at Hoge Veluwe in spring 2014

On 26 February 2014, two pairs of Parrot Crossbill Loxia pytyopsittacus were seen at Otterlosche Zand, NP Hoge Veluwe, Gelderland, the Netherlands (52.118 N, 05.821 O). On several days in April, a pair with two juveniles was observed, photographed and sound-recorded. During all observations, the birds behaved very quietly. Although there have been several earlier reports and publications of established territories and even breeding Parrot Crossbills in the Netherlands, this is the first fully documented breeding record.
